1988 Porsche 911 Carrera Club Sport

A great Club Sport and number 25 of only 53 examples of its type supplied to the UK market. This is perhaps my favourite 911 model and following a recent extensive drive this car confirms those thoughts, it is extremely well sorted. It is in excellent order throughout, without modification and has covered just 53,000 miles with a full and detailed history.

Originally supplied to Des Winks, the proprietor of a Honda Dealership and keen Club Racer, the car was entered into a number of competition events in its early years. Correspondence and event programmes on file detail this, indeed it was driven at one event by champion driver Andy Rouse. During these years the CS was correctly maintained as indicated in the original stamped service book.

Des Winks sold the car in 1993 at 9,000 miles to a Mr Boyes, a fellow resident of Yorkshire at which point the car began a quieter life that has continued to date. Mr Boyes retained the CS until 1999, increasing the mileage to 25,000 miles in his ownership. He looked after it carefully as indicated by the regular servicing noted in the service book and detailed in invoices on file.

In 1999 at 27,000 miles the car was bought by Mr Bignell, a resident of Sutton, Surrey. He kept the car for just a couple of years covering about 1,500 miles before selling in 2001.

Mr Steve Darnell became the fourth owner of this CS and immediately embarked on a full inspection and refurbishment programme carried out by well-regarded Porsche specialist, Frances Tuthill in Oxfordshire, who continued to maintain the car regularly for Mr Darnell. Retaining the car until 2010, the CS was clearly much loved by Mr Darnell and he looked after it extremely well as shown by the numerous invoices on file. Every major drive is documented in correspondence and the CS became a regular at Porsche events, photographs, letters and programmes on file detail this. During this ownership the CS carried the appropriate number plate C5 POR.

In 2010 Mr Darnell reluctantly sold the CS at 40,800 miles to a prominent member and officer of the Porsche Club Australia. This enthusiastic owner, Mr R Widdison of Victoria, continued to show the car at many Porsche Club events Down Under and as in common with previous owners took maintenance very seriously. Service stamps and invoicing detail the work completed by the well-regarded Porsche specialists Weissach Sport.

Several years ago the last owner, a UK based Porsche enthusiast, purchased the CS, importing it back to the UK to join his small but exceptional collection. He has continued to enjoy the CS during summer months taking the mileage from 47,000 miles at re-importation to 53,000 miles today. A major service was completed by specialists, Precision in Sussex, in April of this year.

A great CS in super order with a lovely history from new. It comes with all original books, tools, air compressor, keys, steering wheel and the very comprehensive history file mentioned above which includes invoices, correspondence, events entered and all MOT certificates.
